Why is Early Presidential Elections in Kazakhstan Significant?

North Korea’s ICBM Launch Worrying – Part I
On 18 November 2022, North Korea successfully test-fired a Hwasong-17 (or Hwasongpho-17) intercontinental-range ballistic missile (ICBM), adding further to the already existing tensions and security threats in the Korean Peninsula. This launch was the largest nuclear-capable weapon in North Korea’s arsenal as a response to the perceived military threats from the US. The test marked the first successful launch of this missile, North Korea’s largest-ever ICBM. An earlier test attempt in March failed, despite North Korea’s claims to the contrary.
India and the South Caucasus
It is desirable to draw a pen -picture of South Caucasus before discussing India’s policy towards the region and its relations with the individual countries in the region. The collapse of the USSR in 1991 resulted in the emergence of 15 independent countries; three out of them namely Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, comprise a well-defined geographic region, known as the South Caucasus to most and trans-Caucasus / Zakavkaze to Russians. India deals with this region as part of Eurasia, as it lies on the cross-roads of Europe and Asia.
Pakistan: The Appointment of the New COAS and the End of the Long March
Pakistan government announced the appointment of General Asim Munir as the new Army chief on Friday. General Sahir Shamshad Mirza was appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. Pakistan: Appointment of New Army Chief
After much delay and deliberate attempts by former Prime Minister Imran Khan to make the issue controversial, Lt. Gen Syed Asim Munir Shah, Frontier Force Regiment, was appointed Pakistan’s new Army Chief on Nov 24. A lingering `technical issue’ had been complicating the appointment, pertaining to the date from which the seniority and pecking order of eligible panelists should apply. Lt. Gen Asim Munir was slated to retire on Nov 27, two days before Gen Bajwa retiring on Nov 29.
Welfare Schemes for Girl Child: Need for Convergence between the Centre and the States
Abstract: The ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Scheme was launched for the protection and education of girl children. Its outcome remains sub-optimal with disproportionate amounts being spent on media advocacy rather than on health and educational requirements. While there are a large number of similar schemes with near identical objectives in almost all states, there is no attempt to strike a synergy between the state and central schemes for optimal utilisation of public funds; most states also lack the capacity and resources to produce perceptible impact.
