Can the Second Xi-Modi Summit Tackle the Really Difficult Issues
In just around a fortnight in mid-October, Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to arrive in India for his second ‘informal’ meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the ancient coastal town of Mamallapuram near Chennai. Xi Jinping is likely to combine it with a visit to neighbouring Nepal where China has in recent years acquired considerable influence, the pace of which has accelerated since installation of the communist government initially under Prachanda. Developments over the past months, however, make any meaningful progress at the Summit unlikely.
Gandhi and Mandela - Timeless Legends
On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 100th birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela, it is significant to look into the lives of these two prominent leaders. In addition, their interaction with people in Africa deserves special attention.
Celebrating Gandhi and his Principles
The 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth is an extraordinary moment for our people most of whom did not witness his towering presence, his multi-faceted work, or hear him speak on a variety of diverse issues many of which are still alive. It needs therefore to be appropriately celebrated by recalling and reflecting on his ideas and messages that are still relevant, transformative and ideally suited to be the guiding principles for the ‘New India’ we all want to see.
Saudi Arabia Drone Attack: Sign of Changing Character of Hybrid War
The Houthi militants carried out an audacious "large-scale" attack with 10 drones targeting Saudi Aramco oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais.1 Even in the past Houthi rebels had attacked Saudi Arabia but the precision and scale of the attack has not been so enormous.
Neighbourhood First: India’s Policy towards Nepal
The Mothihari-Amlekhgunj pipeline was jointly inaugurated on 10th September 2019 by Prime Ministers of both nations through a video link. The 69 km pipeline multiproduct pipeline is a government to government (G2G) project. It is built jointly by state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and can supply petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel. It will be supplying only diesel in its first phase. The pipeline was constructed in record 15 month’s time.
India and Mongolia – The Spiritual Neighbours
Ironically, when one thinks of Mongolia the utter winter, cold climate, distance and exotic nature claim the mind-space. This is one country where Indians are loved probably due to the Buddhist connection and Himalayan heritage of the Mongolian people. The warmth and hospitality that the Mongolians extend is simply amazing. Greeting of sain-bai-noo reverberates the beauty of close proximity, simplicity and infectious loving smiles envelop you whenever you meet and interact with them. They have China and Russia as neighbours and were virtually a satellite state of the then Soviet Union.
