High-powered body to draw up economic plan

ISLAMABAD: The government has formed a high-powered body also comprising military authorities to formulate development and economy-oriented policies of the country.

The National Development Council (NDC) to be headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan will also have Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as one of its members. Pakistan, Japan sign MoU on defence cooperation

Pakistan and Japan on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation and exchanges. The MoU was signed after the 10th round of military-to-military talks at the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi.
Additional Defence Secretary Rear Admiral Owais Ahmed Bilgrami led the Pakistani delegation, while the director general for International Affairs at Japan’s Bureau of Defence Policy led the Japanese side. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing and diversifying bilateral cooperation and agreed on stronger collaboration for promotion of international peace and security, the officials said.Click here to read...

Cash-strapped Pakistan inks 3 loan deals worth USD 918 mn with World Bank

Pakistan on Tuesday signed three loan agreements worth a total of USD 918 million with the World Bank, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s adviser on finance has said as the cash-strapped country tries to overcome a ballooning balance-of-payments crisis that threaten to cripple its economy.

The amount will be used to fund three projects -- USD 400 million each on Pakistan Raises Revenue Programme and Higher Education Development in Pakistan and USD 118 million on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Mobilisation and Resource Management Programme, Dawn news reported.Click here to read...

Trump demands sources after report claims US cyber attacks on Russia

US President Donald Trump has asked The New York Times to disclose its sources behind the report that claimed that his government was ramping up cyber attacks on Russia's electric power grid as a sign of warning to President Vladimir Putin.
Citing unofficial sources, The New York Times report claimed that the US has placed a malware inside the Russian systems operating the nation's power grid so as to conduct cyber attacks if a conflict arises between the two countries in the future.Click here to read...

India provides USD 15 million assistance to Niger for holding AU summit

India has extended USD 15 million grant to Niger in support of organising the African Union summit scheduled in July in Niamey. The support was in response to a specific request by the Niger government, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement. Niger is hosting the AU Summit for the first time. The AU Summit, from July 7-8 in Niamey, is also expected to launch the historic African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).Click here to read...

India-Nepal cross border pipeline work completed, ready for operation

The work on laying south Asia's first cross border petroleum pipeline linking Motihari in India and Amlekhgunj in Nepal has been fully completed. The pipeline covers a distance of 70.2 kilometres.

Quoting Petroleum Pipeline Extension Project Simara's engineer Sharad Poudel, state news agency Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) has reported that the pipeline's technical examination is underway.Click here to read...
