Water Security in India

Niti aayog in 2018 came out with a significant report titled 'Composite Water Management Index Report' which very clearly stated that India was facing the worst water crisis in its history impacting millions of lives and livelihood. The report emphasized the shortage of water in both urban and rural India, deteriorating water quality, over-extraction and contamination of groundwater, inter-state disagreements on water related issues, and lack of water data as some of the key issues the country is grappling with at present. In this episode of VIF Podcast, Dr. Uttam Kumar Sinha, Senior Fellow at the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) and Heena Samant, Research Associate, VIF discuss about India's water crisis situation, its significance, why individual's participation is important to save this finite resource given the turbulent times the world is living in today, and where is India headed as far as water security of the country is concerned.
