The Swedish Special Envoy to Af-Pak visited VIF on 8th March 2011 and interacted with VIF scholars for close to two hours. He touched upon key areas that were impacting the current situation in Afghanistan and also had a bearing on its future. During the course of the meeting the ambassador discussed about the Swedish involvement in Afghanistan. He gave his perspective on the macro situation in the country as well as an assessment of the state of capability of the Afghan National Security Forces. The operational capabilities of the Afghan army were discussed and the gaps therein were highlighted.

The Indian view on the situation in Afghanistan and the future of the country was examined. In addition to the Indian perspective, the views of other countries, like Pakistan, Iran, Russia and Central Asian countries on the current situation in Afghanistan were highlighted. The influence of Pakistan in the stability of Afghanistan was also analysed in great detail. The internal developments in Pakistan as well as its interference in the pursuit of its policy of strategic depth in Afghanistan were deliberated upon.
