VIF-RIAC Roundtable | Strategic and Economic Implications of the Ukraine Crisis

The VIF in collaboration with the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) convened a virtual roundtable discussion on the Strategic and Economic Implications of the Ukraine Crisis on 6 July 2022. The opening remarks were delivered by Dr Arvind Gupta, Director, VIF and Mr Andrey Kortunov, Director General, RIAC. Key remarks focusing on the strategic and economic dimensions of the conflict were delivered by Amb. D.B. Venkatesh Varma and Mr. Sergey Afontsev, respectively. Other eminent experts and dignitaries that participated in the discussion included Amb. P.S Raghavan, Mr. Dmitry Trenin, Amb. GlebIvashentsov, Lt. Gen. R.K. Sawhney, Amb. Anil Wadhwa, Amb. Arun K. Singh and Mr. Alexey Kupriyanov. The discussion primarily focussed on examining the strategic and economic implications of the ongoing Ukraine conflict. The speakers also analyzed and deliberated upon the medium and long-term perspectives of the war while taking into account both the Indian and Russian positions. There was also a focus on discussing the scope and trajectory of the evolving India-Russia bilateral relationship with an emphasis on strengthening ties across multiple avenues. The discussion was rich with information and presented a key opportunity for experts from both sides to share critical perspectives and positions.
