Ministerial Conference agrees on Regional Maritime Security Mechanisms

In the wake of the Ministerial meeting of the Indian Ocean Commission on maritime security issues held on 28th -29th April 2018 at the InterContinental Resort, Balaclava, Ministers in charge of security in the Indian Ocean region and representatives of regional and international organisations agreed on Regional Maritime Security Mechanisms.

The Conference adopted the Declaration on Maritime Security in Western Indian Ocean, called “Mauritius Declaration on Maritime Security”, on 29 April 2018 at Balaclava, and indicated its appreciation of the joint Plan of Action. Click here to read...

Japan-funded maritime security courses get underway in Djibouti

The first in a series of regional maritime security courses, funded by the Government of Japan, has been held at the Djibouti Regional Training Centre (DRTC). During a five-day workshop (22-26 April 2018), officials from 10 countries* were able to learn about and share ideas on best practices for maritime domain awareness, including measures to promote coordination and sharing of information at national level as the basis for effective regional cooperation. This is in line with the objectives of the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct, under which participatory States pledge to work together, with support from IMO and other stakeholders, to build national and regional capacity to address wider maritime security issues, as a basis for sustainable development of the maritime sector. Blast at India-developed hydroelectricity project in Nepal weeks before inauguration by Modi

A bomb exploded today at the office of a hydroelectricity project being developed with Indian assistance in eastern Nepal, an official said, weeks before its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The compound wall of the 900 MW Arun III Hydroelectric Power Plant's office in Tumlingtar area, nearly 500 km from Kathmandu, was damaged in the explosion, said Siva Raj Joshi, Chief District Officer of the Sankhuwasabha district. Click here to read...

Pakistan's Interior Ministry has abruptly removed the chief prosecutor from the Mumbai terror attack case for "not taking the government line", an official said today, in a major setback to India's efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"The Interior Ministry has removed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Special Prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar, who had been representing as chief of prosecution in the Mumbai attack case since 2009, from the high-profile case," an official of the FIA privy to the development told PTI.
