Indian Economy: Myth and Reality with Dr. R Vaidyanathan

Dr. R Vaidyanathan, Professor of Finance, IIM-Banglore and Dean, Centre of Economic Studies at Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), delivered a perceptive talk, titled ‘Indian Economy: myth and realty’ on 30 June 2015, under the aegis of VIF’s monthly Vimarsha series of lectures. As part of the opening remarks, General NC Vij, Director, VIF, presented an interesting walkthrough the first year of Modi-led NDA government at the center. Summing up the performance of the Modi government in its first year, the Director said it has been a mixed bag of success and hiccups.

Vimarsha on ‘Science’ of Economics - Dr. Rathin Roy, Director & CEO, NIPFP

Vimarsha, VIF’s monthly series of talks, was held on 18 Dec 2014 with Dr. Rathin Roy, Director & CEO, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) and Member, Seventh Central Pay Commission, Government of India, speaking on the ‘Science of Economics as Applied to India’. A large audience, comprising many senior retired bureaucrats and military veterans among other informed citizenry, attended the event. General NC Vij, Director VIF, introduced the guest speaker and the subject to the audience while Amb Prabhat P Shukla, Distinguished Fellow VIF, presided over the evening session.

Seminar on Indian Economy

The Vivekananda International Foundation organized a day long seminar, critically examining various aspects and undercurrents of the Indian Economy, on 10th December 2013. The main speakers at the seminar included Shri Vijai Kapoor, former Lt. Governor of Delhi, Dr. Surjit Bhalla, Chairman, Oxus Investments, Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, former Head of Asia Strategy & Visiting Fellow VIF, Dr. Bibek Debroy, renowned economist and author, Dr. Arvind Virmani, former Chief Economic Advisor to the Finance Ministry, and Shri Sandip Sabharwal, Consultant and Investment Advisor.

Talk by Dr. V Anantha Nageswaran on Recent Developments in the Indian and Chinese Economies

VIF welcomed Dr V Anantha Nageswaran, noted economist, author and its Visiting Fellow, on 1st August 2013 to speak on the myths and realities of China’s growth story and the Indian economic situation. Pointing out that it was China’s economy that has supported its rise as the region’s political and military power, VIF Director, Mr Ajit Doval, KC, said therefore, it is vital to understand the dynamics of the Chinese economic growth and its various hidden undercurrents.

Dr. Bibek Debroy, an eminent economist and member of VIF’s (Vivekananda International Foundation) Executive Council, delivered a perceptive talk, titled ‘India-Slowing Down an Under Heated Economy’ on December 30th, 2011 as part of the Foundation’s Vimarsha series of lectures. An august gathering, comprising former civil and military officials, scholars and diplomats attended.
