Following up on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s highly successful and ‘historic’ visit to India undertaken in the month of April, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) organised a Round Table Discussion (RTD) on 06 Jun 2017 with Dr. Gowher Rizvi, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on international relation.
Amb Tariq Karim, Bangladesh’s former High Commissioner to India and a Distinguished Fellow at the VIF, delivered a talk on some of the recent developments in Bangladesh on. He broadly dwelt upon the Islamic State (IS) factor in Bangladesh, the upcoming elections and the trajectory of Indo-Bangladesh relations should there be a change in government of Bangladesh. The Talk was followed by an interactive session. Amb Satish Chandra, Lt Gen Ravi Sawhney and Amb Veena Sikri, among others, interacted with the speaker.
A seven-member delegation of Bangladesh Jatiyo Party, led by Mr Ziauddin Ahmed (Bablu), Member of Parliament and former advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh visited the VIF.
A Round Table Meet on ‘Developing Counter Narrative to Radicalization: Bangladesh Experience’ was held at Vivekananda International Foundation, New Delhi, on the 11th of November, 2016. Visiting expert from Bangladesh, Lt. Col. (Retd.), Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahir, recipient of Swadinata Padak, Bangladesh’s highest civilian award and author of several books, was the key speaker.
A high –powered delegation from Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) led by its President, Ambassador Farooq Sobhan, visited the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on the 1st of February 2017. On 27 October 2016, the VIF invited Brigadier General Muhammad Sakhawat Hussain ndc, psc (Retd), former Election Commissioner of Bangladesh (2007-2012), for a talk on ‘Electoral Governance in Bangladesh’, followed by an interactive session. With Mr.
Bangladesh, world's third largest Muslim majority nation has, right from its independence, cherished and followed the cardinal democratic values of freedom, equality, justice and religious tolerance. These, in a major way, also played a pivotal role in the nation’s freedom struggle.
The VIF had the privilege to host Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu, Hon’ble Minister for Information and President of the Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesh, on 18 Aug 2016 for an interaction on India-Bangladesh relations and the way forward. The interaction covered a broad spectrum of issues: bilateral economic and security cooperation, Bangladesh’s’ internal dynamics, the menace of radicalization, and South Asian regional cooperation, among many other related issues.

At the invitation of Bangladesh Enterprises Institute, a Dhaka based premier think-tank, a VIF delegation headed by Director, Gen. N C Vij, visited Dhaka from April 20-22, 2016.
