Ethnic Conflict and Harmonization: A Study of Manipur

Abstract Manipur is a melting pot of diverse cultures and ethnicities and has gradually evolved into a dynamic multicultural society. The Nagas, Kukis and Meiteis have shared common spaces and have been competing for the same land and other resources, since times immemorial, thereby leading to an ethnic conflict which has often manifested itself in violence and bias against each other. Vimarsha: Northeast as the Backbone of India’s Act East Policy - A talk by Lt Gen (retd) Nirbhay Sharma

Vimarsha - VIF’s monthly series of talks on issues of contemporary strategic relevance - was held on 13 May 2015 with then Governor of Arunachal Pradesh His Excellency Lt Gen (retd) Nirbhay Sharma sharing his perspective on the development of the Northeast in the light of India’s ‘Act East’ policy. Lt Gen S K Sinha, former Governor Assam and J&K, chaired the session, while several prominent experts among the audience interacted with the speaker.

Interaction with Students from North East India

An interaction was held with select students from the country’s North East region residing in Delhi, on 28 Feb 2014. The aim of the interaction was to reassure people from the region about their security in the wake of some recent untoward incidents as well as to seek suggestions on steps that need to be taken to address the problems faced by them in the national capital.
