Asia Pacific group endorses India's bid for non-permanent seat of UNSC

In a highly significant diplomatic win for India and testament to its global stature, India's candidature for a non-permanent seat at the powerful UN Security Council for a two-year term has been unanimously endorsed by the Asia-Pacific group at the world body. Roped in to insulate Indian maritime assets from the geopolitical power-play involving the US and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian Navy’s Operation Sankalp has begun showing results. Navy spokesperson Captain DK Sharma said, “Five Indian ships carrying crude were escorted by the Indian Navy while transiting the straits beyond Gulf of Oman till Tuesday evening”. Assam publishes 1.02 lakh names in ‘additional draft exclusion list’

The office of the State Coordinator for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam on Wednesday published an “additional draft exclusion list” consisting the names of 1,02,462 people. This list is different from the one containing the names of 40.07 lakh people who were excluded last year from the 3.29 crore applicants. On this additional list are those whose names were included in the draft NRC published on July 30, 2018 but were subsequently found to be ineligible for three reasons.Click here to read... [4]

155 Islamic State members, sympathisers arrested so far: Home Ministry

A total of 155 members and sympathisers of banned terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS) have been arrested in the country so far, the Home Ministry said Tuesday. Some instances of individuals from different states joining the IS have also come to the notice of central and state security agencies, it said.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the state police forces have registered cases against IS members and sympathisers, and have arrested 155 accused from across the country so far, Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.Click here to read...
