State of Mind of the Chinese Nation
Knowledge plays a vital role in nation building and in controlling of society. From the last decade of nineteenth century to the May Fourth period, Chinese intellectuals of different backgrounds – reformists, revolutionaries, pragmatist thinkers, anarchists, and would-be communists engaged themselves in a debate to decide upon the suitable knowledge for nation building in China. They borrowed from both the Western as well as Chinese tradition for rescuing their country from the imperialist forces and making it a rich and militarily powerful nation (富国强兵).
Sohrabuddin Case and Police Encounters: Realities and Myths
Beware of half truths — because you may be holding the wrong half. After having seen and read so much about the Sohrabuddin episode in the last five years, one might believe one knows it all. Sohrabuddin is now cast as an innocent victim of police excess.
SENIOR GENERAL THAN SHWE’S VISIT : A GRAND SUCCESS
Amidst the doom and gloom generated by an Indian foreign policy, which has for the last several years been marked by lack of vision and by pusillanimity in dealings with USA, Pakistan and China, there are two areas in which there are grounds for cheer notably in our relations with Bangladesh and Myanmar.
THE PROBLEM WAS ALWAYS PAKISTAN
The Afghan warlogs made public by the website Wikileaks only reconfirms what has been known for years now – the complicity of the Pakistan army and intelligence agencies in supporting, funding, providing safe havens, and even directing the actions of Islamist terror groups operating in Afghanistan. To this extent there is hardly any novelty in these documents.
US-SOUTH KOREA JOINT EXERCISE INCREASING CHINESE NAVAL ASSERTIVENESS: CAUSE FOR CONCERN
The Cheonon Incident On 26 Mar10, the South Korean Naval Ship Cheonon sank off the Coast of Korea. 46 South Korean sailors perished. A South Korean led international team of investigators determined that a torpedo fired from a North Korean submarine sank the Cheonon. North Korea however strongly refuted these allegations. This led to outrage in South Korea and the USA. The matter was discussed at the Asian Security Forum held at Hanoi recently. The US Foreign Secretary Hillary Clinton has announced a slew of sanctions designed to deny luxury goods to the North Korean elite and strangle funding for the nuclear program.

Our language has let us down in talks with Pakistan
Language is the handmaiden of diplomacy as it is through words, spoken or written, through which one's message is conveyed. Effective diplomacy, therefore, demands precision in the use of language, as all its processes such as communicating, negotiating and evolving agreements require the projection of views with complete clarity and unambiguity. Sir Ernest Satow's classic Guide to Diplomatic Practice puts this truism in the following terms: 'The use of clear and definite language should in all cases be secured, the meaning of which shall not be open to doubt or dispute.'
