China’s Power Play
New Delhi must react firmly to beijing’s provocative stance on Kashmir We must understand the implications of China’s denial of visa to General Jaswal, heading India’s Northern Command, for defence talks in Beijing on the ground that he came from the “sensitive location of Jammu and Kashmir” and “people from this part of the world come with a different kind of visa”.
Lose-Lose Situation
The Jammu and Kashmir problem has blighted our existence since independence, draining us politically, diplomatically and militarily. Who should be blamed for this depressing balance sheet and in what measure? The actors have been Pakistan, India and the Kashmiris. Pakistan has used various means to either wrest Kashmir from us or destabilize it
Political Realignments in Pakistan : The Art of the Impossible
A meeting in Lahore between the Federal Law Minister Babar Awan and the former chief minister of Punjab and PMLQ leader, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, has shaken up the political scene in Pakistan by opening up the possibility of new political alignments which had until now been dismissed as impossible. Hu’s Successor is Xi
Appointment of Vice President Xi Jinping to the post of Vice Chairman of Central Military Commission (CMC) in the recently concluded Fifth Plenum of the 17th Congress of CPC further indicates that the stage is ready for Mr. Xi to take up the cudgel from President Hu Jintao by 2012. Given the unstable and unprecedented conditions confronting China today, the highest political management of the country certainly would prefer choosing a consensus candidate as the next president and not indulge in power contests within the party for political succession.
