Rejuvenating India’s health sector
Doctors and healthcare workers are the heroes of our battle against COVID 19. It is, therefore, painful to see that many of them contracted the infection because of lack of personal protective gears. The country faces an acute shortage of essential equipment like hospital beds, ventilators, testing kits, masks, et cetera. Efforts are being made to meet the shortages but these are at best short termmeasures. The coronavirus endemic has also highlighted that health security is an essential part of national security.
COVID-19 ails the Beijing Model
The United Nations Security Council, the premium forum to discuss threats to global peace and security, is yet to discuss COVID-19. An attempt to address the Virus was blocked by China last month while it served as the Chair of the Security Council. As casualties continue to mount, the world faces a dire crisis of this magnitude for the first time since the Second World War. One needs to question the role of the People's Republic of China in international affairs and the heft it carries at multilateral institutions.
Province 2 in Nepal - No Name, No Capital
In Nepal, the coalition government of the Federal Socialist Party Nepal (FSPN) and the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) in Province 2 could not garner the required number of votes in the Provincial Assembly on the name of the province and its capital on March 17, 2020. As such, the future of giving the name and fixing capital of Province 2 has become uncertain.
