Xi Jinping and CCP Leadership Wary of Colour Revolution before 20th Party Congress
Anxiety in the leadership echelons of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of the possibility of a "colour revolution" in China has transparently risen in the past month or so. While Chinese cadres, including Xi Jinping, have harboured such apprehensions since the disintegration of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1991, these concerns have increased markedly since the rapid deterioration in relations with the United States.
Colombo Port City Project and Indian Concerns
India and Sri Lanka as two immediate neighbours enjoy broad sustained bilateral ties. Over the two thousand years of coexistence, whole range of issues have dominated the bilateral ties many arising out of the dynamic domestic environment and some from extra regional exigencies. While both states continue to profess amity and cooperation, points of friction continue to often overwhelm the bilateral ties. Underlying bilateral tension over issues of fisherman and fishing rights, issues over the minority ethnic Tamil population simmer amongst some others.
US-India Partnership: Crisis Management in the Pandemic Era and Future of the Relationship
It is widely accepted that India and the United States have transformed their relationship in the post Cold War era. In the years from the Clinton administration, both US and India found increasing congruence in the security, economic and politics of the new world. Their strategic partnership grew substantially and with the signing of the nuclear deal in 2008, the level of engagement grew rapidly despite constraints.
Nepalese Budget 2021-22: Whiter Madhesh?
As the parliament in Nepal was dissolved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on May 22 to pave the way for the mid-term elections in November, a week later, on May 29, in a televised address Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel presented the annual budget plan of NRs.1.64 trillion (14.17 billion US dollar) for the fiscal year 2021-22. The budget which was brought through an ordinance had the twin objectives of controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and bringing in economic recovery to the country.
A Case for Tokyo Olympics Cancellation
At the time of writing, the Tokyo Olympics are on but there is a strong case for its cancellation in view of the extraordinary situation before it is too late as lives are at stake. The ferocity of the rampaging pandemic shows no signs of ebbing out anytime soon with successive ugly waves taking away too many people world over. More worrying is that new variants emerging from many countries and travelling fast beyond borders are posing peculiar new threats.
