The Vivekananda International Foundation hosted a discussion on "India-Greece Relations in a Strategic Context" on 13 June 2024. The key speaker for the session was Amb. Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, Ambassador of Greece to India. India and Greece are closely engaging to boost bilateral trade with plans to double trade flows by 2030s. There are parallel negotiations on Free Trade Agreement. Both states are pillars of stability in their respective regions. The mutual commitment towards peace brought both the states closer. The visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Greece in August 2023 and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to India in February 2024 have added to the diplomatic heft between both countries. In terms of positive developments, people-to-people ties, cultural exchanges and educational partnerships have increased. Greece has introduced new law to allow private universities that could provide opening to Indian educational institutions. Greece facing slow population growth is seeking to capitalise the inflow of Indian workers in construction, agriculture and technology sectors. Greece is highly keen to cooperate in the India Middle East Europe Corridor. Despite current hiccups due to Israel-Hamas war, Greece perceives the strategic corridor as a generational project.
