US military gear left in Afghanistan resurfaces with Pakistani Taliban – Mission Network News

It was bad enough when the US hastily withdrew from Afghanistan, leaving $7 billion-worth of military equipment to the Taliban. Now, the American weapons and tactical gear from Afghanistan are resurfacing in Pakistan. Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, is the Pakistani Taliban. The TTP looks up to the Afghanistan Taliban like a big brother, calling them a role model. The TTP was emboldened after the Afghanistan Taliban regained power in August 2021. And, like a big brother helping out his little brother, terrorists in Afghanistan are now sharing their new military toys across the Pakistan border. Click here to read...

Iranian official rejects Taliban claim about drug cultivation ban in Afghanistan - Iran Front Page

The director general of Iran’s drug control headquarters dismisses the Taliban’s claim that drug cultivation has been banned in Afghanistan. Eskandar Momeni described the claim as “mere word” and a “show”. Momeni added that it’s highly unlikely the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan are serious and determined to ban drug cultivation. Top Afghan Taliban leader issues decree against nepotism – The Hindu

The supreme leader of the Taliban has issued a decree against nepotism, barring officials in Afghanistan's Taliban administration from hiring relatives in government positions. The shadowy leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, also ordered all Taliban officials to sack their sons and other relatives who are already working in their administration. A recent probe into war crimes in Afghanistan accused an Australian SAS soldier of killing a civilian in 2012, prompting his arrest on Monday. The accused – 41-year-old Oliver Schulz is the first military member or veteran from Australia to be accused of a war crime under Australian law. More the 70 countries and EU representatives in a United Nations CSW statement said the ban on female education puts Afghan women and girls at increased risk of “gender-based violence, including child, early, and forced marriage” and it “undermines Afghanistan’s stability. According to a report in the Tolo News, “In addition, the order barring female employees of national and international NGOs from the workplace means that millions of Afghans will be unable to access life-saving humanitarian assistance,” the statement said. Myanmar Junta Chief Visits Sagaing as Terror Campaign Intensifies – Irrawaddy

Myanmar junta boss Min Aung Hlaing on Sunday visited Sagaing Region, the hotbed of resistance to the military regime in central Myanmar, where he met junta personnel in Monywa serving under the Myanmar military’s Northwestern Command. The regime chief called for unity within the military, and gave long lectures about how soldiers should fully utilize the military training they have been given. In February, the military regime declared martial law in 14 townships in Sagaing, placing them under the direct control of Northwestern Command. Since the imposition of martial law, the junta has stepped up its terror campaign in Sagaing, perpetrating more massacres and arson attacks targeting both resistance fighters and civilians. Myanmar’s internal conflict and its spillover effects, triggered by the military’s coup d’etat just over two years ago, will be a particular focus in an upcoming trip to the Asean region this week by top US State Department official Derek Chollet. The March 20 to 24 trip to Indonesia and Thailand will be the latest in a series of high-level visits by US officials to the region, especially to Jakarta, as Indonesia nears the fourth month of its year as chair of Asean. Pakistan's current account deficit hits two-year low – Deccan Herald

Curbs on imports by Pakistan began to yield results as the cash-strapped country's current account deficit (CAD) hit a two-year low of $74 million in a month, it emerged on Monday. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported that "the current account deficit (was) recorded at $0.1 billion in February 2023 against a deficit of $0.5 billion in February 2022.
