Brig. Gurmeet Kanwal: An Irreparable Loss to Strategic & Security Community

The sad and sudden demise of Brig. Gurmeet Kanwal after a bout of illness in Army’s R & R Hospital came as a shock to members of strategic and services’ community.

He was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery and commanded a Field Regiment. Having done extremely well in the Artillery he went on to command an Infantry Brigade. While in the Army he had started writing for Artillery Journal and he was one of the first group of Army Officers to join think tanks for undertaking research on strategic and security subjects especially on nuclear and military issues besides geopolitics.
He was author of well received books like Nuclear Defence: Shaping the Arsenal, Indian Army: Vision 2020, Pakistan’s Proxy War, Heroes of Kargil and Kargil ’99: Blood, Guts and Firepower.

He was a Visiting Fellow with Vivekananda International Foundation and had contributed regularly insightful opinion pieces and articles for the website. He also made a number of very well thought out presentations during conferences and seminars held at the VIF. Above all, his writings have contributed greatly to the policy formulation on strategic and security affairs at the highest levels.

The VIF fraternity join together to convey heartfelt condolences to his family.
