China on Tuesday hinted at ‘progress’ on designation of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar by the United Nations’ 1267 Sanctions Committee, as the United States called for resolving the contentious matter. Senior Pakistani officials disclosed to Dawn that China could lift its technical hold leading to Azhar’s designation, while developments in this regard are likely to be shared by the Foreign Office with the media at a special briefing scheduled for Wednesday (today). Peace Jirga’s Admin Board Completed Despite Rifts: Tolo News

The administrative board of the Grand Consultative Jirga on Peace was completed after all its members – five deputies and five secretaries – were elected by the delegates at the end of the second day of the gathering, sources confirmed. Almost 3,200 delegates from around the country have gathered in the Jirga to decide on the future of the peace process in Afghanistan. The election of the Jirga's administrative board was supposed to be completed on the first day, but it was reportedly delayed due to rifts on some members of the board. Employers have shown little interest in joining the Contribution Based Social Security Scheme, which was hailed as a landmark scheme for the welfare of private sector workers when it was launched in November last year.
