The Foreign Office on Thursday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s remarks on ties with Pakistan and said the government was keenly waiting for the engagement at the highest level. “We look forward to positive engagement with the US at the leadership level,” FO spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal said at the weekly media briefing. Amid reports on a possible withdrawal of a “significant” number of US forces from Afghanistan, the US Vice President Mike Pence said Trump “is in the process of evaluating” whether to remove troops from Afghanistan. State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI), which plans to build airports abroad, is yet to get the ministry of external affairs’ (MEA) nod to develop Sri Lanka’s Palaly airport.
Jayant Sinha, minister of state for aviation, told the Lok Sabha that while AAI had signed a memorandum of understanding with the MEA for preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for developing airports at Kalay in Myanmar and Palaly in Sri Lanka, the ministry is yet to give the required permission.
